Wholesome horse stories, tips, and wisdom for holistic equestrians

Twice a month join Jordan Holbrook and Ruby Doss as they swap stories, share tips, and talk all things horses.

Meet the Hosts

Ruby Doss

Ruby was born loving horses and has spent her life pursuing them, despite the lack of equestrians in her family. Now a holistic horse trainer, independent nutrition consultant and founder of TruBar Nutraceuticals LLC, Ruby brings her lifetime of horse experience and continued quest for knowledge to the podcast.

Jordan Holbrook

Jordan is a new convert to the horse girl lifestyle and working on becoming a full time horse girl. She brings her background in integrative medicine and education in equine body work to the holistic horse discussion.

  • In this inflated economy, it can be difficult to find the right horse at the right price. Jordan, like many equestrians right now, is thinking about beginning her search for her first horse. Ruby talks about her experience and advice in looking for a horse, how to prioritize your wish list, where to look for a horse, and how to go through the purchasing process. If you are looking for a horse, this episode is for you!

  • Horses only do things because it is what they believe we want them to do or because it is a survival instinct. However, all too often, we think of our horses as rebellious, manipulative, or devious. it is important to remember that the horse is never to blame. Listen to Jordan and Ruby’s stories about times horses acted out, and find out why.

  • While Jordan and our producer Maddy enjoy time staring at wall, our horses don't always feel the same. Did you know that horses only sleep 3.5 hours a day? Our domestic horses then spend 4-6 hours eating, and maybe an hour or two with us on a ride. That leaves 14 hours a day for.... vices, getting into trouble, destroying their fly mask, etc. Enrichment is the idea of building natural behaviors into your horse's life through habitat, cognition, sensory experiences, food, and toys to help keep them entertained and healthy.

  • Item description
  • If you are like Jordan and Ruby, you love horses more than anything. You're committed to the lifestyle, your horse's welfare, and always learning more. There are more and more of us out there all the time. But the industry still doesn't have much support for us. Most training programs are geared toward competition in a particular discipline, leaving those of us with less show ring aspirations without much support.

In this episode, we discuss what we can do to find that support, and what the industry can do develop it. Join us for our last conversation of season 1, but don't worry, season two will be out soon with even more interviews, thought provoking content, and laughs from the Whole Scoop team.
