Breeches vs Jodhpurs

Are you as baffled by breeches vs jodhpurs as I have been? Here is everything you need to know. We’ll keep this one brief because, really, there isn’t much to it.

Jodhpurs

Jods are worn mostly by kids under the age of 12. They have elastic bands that go under the foot to hold them in place, and they are traditionally worn with paddock boots and garter straps.

Breeches

Breeches (pronounced either bree-chez or britches) are tight riding pants. They can either be knee patch or full seat. Knee patch, as the name suggests, have patches on the knees. Full seat have either a patch or grippies that cover the entire seat of the pants.

Riding tights

These are breech style pants that are very thin and flexible, more like athletic leggings.

Well, like I said, it’s short and sweet. If you want more information about where to buy breeches or other riding gear for your kids, check out this free guide. It will answer all of the most commonly asked questions I get from parents in my lesson program regarding gear, including boots, helmets, and more.
