Whole Horsemanship Coaching

Stable vices, ulcers, weak hooves, explosive energy, and chronic lameness may be common, but they are not normal. These are what we refer to in human health as “diseases of civilization,” meaning our horses’ wild counterparts don’t experience these maladies. The good news? With diet and lifestyle changes you and your horse can manage and mitigate these health issues and more.

Wellness Consulation

How does it work?

Ruby works with you to learn as much about you and your horse as possible, including behaviors, health history, and more. Then she makes a protocol tailored to your specific horse-human team that includes physical, mental, and emotional balancing through diet, exercise regimens, and lifestyle changes. Each month, you will meet with Ruby and update your protocol. Meetings end when your wellness goals are achieved.

The Human Element

Imagine you have a tennis partner. Your partner is more well-funded and knows more about tennis than you do and they insist that you have all the best equipment, trainers, nutrition, you sleep well, and you meditate. And then they show up to your match fueled by Taco Bell and four hours of sleep and they are an anxious wreck. You will probably be pretty frustrated.

Now imagine how our courses must feel when we invest all of this time and energy and money into saddle fit, training programs, and the best supplements, only to then show up out of shape, malnourished, and distracted. Our horse-human team is only as strong as its weakest Link. We owe it to our horses to take care of her own health.

Success Story

Mesa, a rescued quarter horse, came to Ruby under weight, with weak and rippled hooves, poor mane and tail, and extremely nervous and flighty. After a year on an intensive nutrition, training, and lifestyle protocol, Mesa’s mental and physical health were much improved. Changes included a move to a group board environment in a busy location to help him become comfortable with people, addition of toys and enrichment activities, frequent short training sessions focusing on positive reinforcement, and chelated mineral blend and herbal supplements to lower cortisol. This once flighty and nervous horse now stands quietly around people, new environments, and loud noises. His hooves are strong, mane and tail are long and healthy, and he has a healthy layer of fat over his ribs.
